Production and Design


FloArt's heavy production schedule and accelerated program affords incoming students immediate "hands-on" experience. Students design and construct sets and costumes for all theater-related productions at the school.

Associate in Science degree
  • Costume Technology - prepares students for employment as costume/wardrobe professionals or costume technicians in a professional shop. The curriculum includes fundamental techniques of costume design through a series of historical and problem-oriented projects. Emphasis is placed on imagination and problem solving in costume rendering and presentation of work.

    OR

  • Scenic Lighting Technology - this unique curriculum provides students instantaneous, practical stage experience balanced with classroom instruction. The program requires students to develop and present major projects in scenic/light, and audio design and prepares students for successful employment in professional theater houses as well as touring companies.

Associate in Science degree
Offers fundamentals of management and organizational patterns and continues through the design, production meetings, rehearsals and ultimately productions. Practical hands-on experience is gained through participation as stage manager or assistant manager.

ASSOCIATE IN ARTS DEGREE
This degree ensures junior-level entrance into a state supported four-year college or university. The Associate in Arts degree requires successful completion of 60 semester hours in both general education and the chosen Florida School of the Arts program area.

Each student must complete a planned program including course work in the area of specialization, and related courses, as well as the general education requirements for English composition, humanities, social science, and mathematics.

Florida Statute requires standardized testing to assess the basic computation and communication skills of entering students. Students who do not meet minimum communication, reading, and/or computation scores established by the State Board rule must complete remediation through enrollment and satisfactory completion of college preparatory courses prior to admission to the college credit communications and/or mathematics courses. (See the college preparatory section in the College catalog). Students may take courses concurrently in other curriculum areas for which they are qualified while undergoing remediation.

ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE DEGREE
This degree is for the student who is interested in entering the professional arts world or transferring into an advanced level professional arts school. The A.S. degree requires successful completion of 64 semester hours in both general education and a chosen FloArts program area.
