Florida law prohibits the college from maintaining housing; Florida School of the Arts, however, maintains a Housing File that assists its students in locating suitable accommodations in the area. There are three apartment complexes within walking distance of the college. Does the school offer Financial Aid? Students admitted into Florida School of the Arts college programs are eligible for all college financial aid programs. Students who qualify for financial assistance may be able to obtain help through scholarships, loans, grants, and part-time work. Financial aid programs at SJRCC include Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Work/Study, Federal Stafford Loan, Federal PLUS Loan, Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, Florida Student Assistance Grant, and Florida Academic Scholars. Also, Florida School of the Arts has talent based scholarships. See FINANCIAL AID What is your student to teacher ratio? Our enrollment is limited to 150 students per year so our class sizes are small and select and the student/teacher ratio is 12:1. How long has the school been around? Florida School of the Arts, established in 1974 by the Florida State Board of Education, specializes in preparing students for successful careers in fine art, graphic design, dance (ballet and contemporary), production/design (technical theater and costume design), theater, and musical theater. The charter class of Florida School of the Arts was admitted in the fall of 1976. Florida School of the Arts is part of the academic and administrative structure of St. Johns River Community College. It is administered by a Dean under the general supervision of the St. Johns River Community College District Board of Trustees and the College President. However, the School is statewide in scope, which includes its own arts faculty, administrative staff, mission statement, and curricula specific to each degree program. Why should I choose FloArts over a state university? At Florida School of the Arts, students have many opportunities to perform or display their art as a freshman or sophomore. At a state university, chances are you will have to wait until your junior or senior year to have those opportunities.
